Above Ground Pools

Above Ground Pools

Just like their cousin, the in-ground pool, above ground pools need very much the same basic maintenance.  There are a few more things to look out for as a pool owner.

Installation

We can help you choose and install your new above-ground pool.

Service

As mentioned above, we maintain the water quality, and remove leaves and other debris from your above-ground pool.  This reduces the risk of damage to your pool liner and equipment.

Repair

We stand ready to protect and maintain your above-ground pool, including water quality, pool liner, steel walls, and all pumps, heaters, or other equipment.

All the services you need,

all in one place.

Whether you own a in-ground pool, or an above-ground pool there really is little difference in the care of the pool water itself.

Both types of swimming pools need basic care and maintenance from a knowledgeable pool service company. We handle all the cleaning, filtering, water testing, chemical levels, and protecting the structure of the above-ground pool.  Care of your above-ground pool is just as much work as caring for your in-ground pool.

Many of the tools we use are the same between the two pool types, as are the technicals of the pool and its equipment.  Here in Southern California, we brush, skim, and vacuum the above ground pool. The skimmer will catch most of the debris floating on the surface.  However, the skimmer can easily get clogged with even a minor wind storm. A bag type of leaf rake or automatic pool cleaner will be helpful with a lot of leaves to catch.  We use a flat skimmer to skim and clean the surface of any pollen and bugs.

Filtering your pool is very important and similar between the two pool types. We will set your filter pump to run for at least 8 to12 hours a day, 7 days a week. If your pump doesn’t work for even a day, your water can turn cloudy and can start to accumulate algae. This is particularly the case in sunny Southern California.  Sun and heat in the California summer can cause the chlorine to breakdown quickly. Since no one really likes a green murky pool, we make sure your pump is running well each day during the hot summer / fall months.

If you have a sand filter and “an diatomaceous earth” pool filter, We use the valve to reverse the water flow through the filter, flushing out all of the trapped dirt and debris that the pool filter has trapped. This technique is called a backwashing. If you have a cartridge filter, that is typically not backwashed. With the pump shut off, we remove the filter cartridges hose them clean.

typically above-ground pools have both a skimmer basket and a pump basket. The skimmer basket collects the surface debris from your pool and needs to be cleaned frequently. It is also important to clean out the pump basket after each pool vacuuming or in any case, once a week or even more frequently if you get a lot of leaves and debris blowing around.

As part of good care and maintenance of your above-ground pool means testing your pool water frequently -- which we advice should be at least weekly.

In addition to running your pool pump to generate chlorine, we can also use chlorine tablets in a floater to keep a consistent level of chlorine in the pool water. We can also employ a shock treatment of powdered chlorine to boost your chlorine level quickly if we find the levels low or if algae begins to appear.

Maintaining an above-ground swimming pool eat up a lot of your time.  Damage to the walls of the pool has to be avoided at all costs, as well as the pool liner and the pool equipment. If you  bump the outside of your above-ground pool, you could be denting a steel wall panel. Also be aware of denting risk from the outside of an above-ground pool.  Everything from bicycles hitting against your pool wall, to a person sitting on the top rail around the top of the wall can cause damage to the wall structure. We will keep your water in good balance to help protect your pool liner. If chlorine levels are too high, chlorine can make your pool liner fade and become brittle.

With an above-ground pool, things like playing with toys not designed for pool use can also damage the pool liner. Other danger points are guests wearing “street clothes” and/or shoes in the pool can damage the liner and the water quality.

We can recommend pool equipment for you that is made to be tough to face all the outdoor elements all year long.  Equipment also has to stand up to falling tree limbs and flooding -- both of which can cause significant damage to your pool equipment. Always keep your filters, pumps and pool heaters removed from higher traffic areas in the backyard.
